Arabic
Ways to say it
| Arabic | Romanisation | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| اسمي ___ | ismi ___ | My name is {name}. Works in every Arabic-speaking country. |
A short introduction
- A: مرحبا (marhaban)
- A: ما اسمك؟ (ma ismuk?)
- B: اسمي ___ (ismi ___)
Pronunciation and tips
- Arabic is written from right to left, but a Latin-script name stays left to right inside the sentence.
- The final -ī in اسمي means "my". Say it as a long ee.
- Everyday speech differs by country, so a dialect form such as the Egyptian "ismi" will sound a little different from what is taught in textbooks.
