Name the mystery country

A hidden country, six questions you can ask, and a map that reacts to your clues.

How to play

A country has been picked in secret. Choose from six questions: where it is, how many people live there, who its neighbours are, which seas and oceans it touches, what its capital is, and what colours are on its flag. Each answer appears as a clue and the map reacts, for example by highlighting the neighbours. Guess by typing a country or tapping it on the map. You can ask as many questions as you like, but fewer is better.

Scoring

You score 10 for solving it after one question. Each extra question costs 1 or 2 points and each wrong guess costs 2. Three wrong guesses and the case is closed with no points.

Difficulty

Easy gives exact facts, from the larger and better known countries. Medium gives partial facts: a population range, some of the neighbours, the first letter of the capital. Hard gives only the vaguest hints: a wide population range, how many neighbours, which ocean, and how many letters the capital has.

About the facts

Populations are rounded estimates for around 2024. Neighbours come from the Natural Earth map, and seas, capitals and flag colours are standard reference facts.

Difficulty and modes

Easy, Medium and Hard each have their own puzzle every day, so there are three to play. A tick on the tab means you have finished it. Unlimited is endless survival play at the difficulty you choose: keep going until you slip, and try to beat your personal best, which is saved in your browser.
